Language, Culture and Community: Olamim’s role in the Bay Area Latinx Jewish Community and Beyond
When I combine my family’s recipes into one, I connect with happy memories on both sides.
Being able to share what connects us creates a sacred community within a community.
I also love teaching young children about Judaism and inspiring them to be proud of being Jewish.
I prefer the term diverse Jew so that everyone can determine what represents them and how they want to share that part of themselves with others.
There are over 250,000 Latin American Jews today. Latin American Jews are not homogenous, but diverse. Today, the Greater Miami area has become home to thousands of Latinx Jews, some with strong ties to Latin America.
Whenever I get the opportunity to introduce myself, I make sure to say “my name is Analucía Lopezrevoredo and I am a proud Jewtina.”
