A Message from Be’chol Lashon this MLK Weekend

Our hope for our community...

Dear Community,

Shabbat Shalom from Be’chol Lashon

It has always seemed fitting that Martin Luther King Jr. Day helped to launch the start of the new secular year. Filled with inspiration and hope, Dr. King’s life and legacy laid a path for us to create the future we dream of. There are certain years where the hope for a brighter tomorrow feels out of reach. It might even be one of those times for you right now.

Nearly 60 years after Dr. King’s passing we still fight for freedom. We still need to build bridges across lines of difference for our collective liberation. We still hope for a future where the lives of all of our children are safe and prosperous. And these decades of continued work is a reminder that we need hope, because transformational change does not happen overnight. Dr. King showed us that this work can take your lifetime, while also showing us that this dedication is our obligation.

As Jews, we know that beyond lifetimes, it takes generations, and our whole history as a people to be in a continued journey of perseverance in hopes of a better tomorrow.

Our hope is that the legacy of Dr. King inspires you to remember where you find your own hope. The holiday is a celebration and reminder of why, even while the challenges of the world may feel enormous, we must stay committed to healing our broken world one day, one lifetime, at a time. We look forward to staying committed to uplifting the racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity that makes our Jewish community so vibrant with you in 2024 and beyond.

In peace,

Team Be’chol Lashon
